So I mentioned a post on upcoming designers and I happen to know one... First off I would like to congratulate Lulwa on her successful fashion show, as she presented her first ever clothing line!
I thoroughly enjoyed last nights event as Lulwa showcased her designs.. They had a mature yet young feel to them and honestly I wouldn't have been able to have created such a beautiful clothing line on my own
I also thought what better way than to hear what Lulwa had to say about her clothing line and the work that she had gone through to get to fulfill her dream.. oh and bare in mind she is 11 years old!
I asked her a few questions and here is what she had to say:
What inspired you to create this line?
L: well since 2013 my aunt has been creating and designing clothes, and I had noticed a gap in young fashion as they don't have many mature styles, so I thought i would create this line to make it more mature for kids my age
What inspired the designs of your outfits?
L: well I've always loved like flowing yet comfortable outfits, however i wanted them to have an element of my culture hence why they are more towards an Arabic style yet they would suit anyone
What about the creation of the line was it hard, I can imagine for an 11 year old it would take up a lot of your time?
L:The designing part wasn't that hard, but like getting everything together was really hard
How about support? Were your friends and family part of your journey in the creation of your line?
L:Yeah I have had a lot of support from my aunt as she has had previous experience, also my mum of course and my friends have done a great job being my models!
What's the name of your clothing line?
L:This collection is something small just as a start off, so we named it Aura by Lulwa but inshallah soon I will have another line but with Jo Lamode who has a store in Royal Plaza and collaborate with her
What advice would you give to others that are planning or aspiring to start their own fashion lines?
L:First of all you need to have an idea in order to visualise your designs, you have to have a good setup, you have to know the people in the industry and you cannot rush into it take your time and enjoy what your doing
How was it starting up your own line?
L:Well this fashion show was really hard and very stressful, but the rest was ok
How about your sister and brother how were they?
L:My brother was really annoying, but Noura was fine, she was my model who I would check alterations on and model the outfits for pictures
I also spoke to her younger sister Noura who was very proud of her sister Lulwa.. and she said
How was it helping Lulwa with the designs?
N:It was good! but the annoying part was changing a lot, but in the end it was fun
What was your favourite outfit?
N:It was a white dress with coloured details
What did you help out with?
N:I got to choose what fabrics and what coloured fabrics would be used on the dresses it was pretty fun!
How did it feel modelling for Lulwa?
N:I was surprised and excited when she first told me that I was going to be one of her models but when she told me it was in front of people I got really nervous
Id just like to add that if anyone is looking on purchasing a chic yet young dress for summer or anytime of the year I would definitely recommend you checking out her aunts online store (on Instagram)... Aura fashion and purchasing one of the Aura by Lulwa dresses.. thank you Lulwa for an incredible night and i hope you enjoyed showcasing your collection.
